Born and raised in New York City,  Jacques has loved film since childhood.  After a four year stint on a nuclear powered submarine in the U.S. Navy, he returned to New York to study film production at Brooklyn College.  He constantly worked with students in film programs (CCNY, NYU, Columbia University, SVA, NY Film Academy etc...) around New York City.  This led to opportunities to work on non-student shorts, which in turn led to feature work.  Within three years Jacques went from intern, to swing, to electric and finally location sound as either a boom op or recordist (or both both if budget permitted!!).  During this time he studied screenwriting and wrote a few short screenplays.  By graduation, Jacques completed his first feature, "Sweet Anne."  He continues writing, doing location recording and other work to support his writing habit.

Since the inception of Soldier Filmworks Jacques has served officially as development executive and line producer. Unofficially, Jacques has served as script doctor on several projects.

The Company

Soldier Filmworks, Inc. was officially established in May 2004 by Jeremiah Jahi with the production of the short film, "The Meeting."  Soldier Filmworks is a boutique style production company specializing in film and television production.

At Soldier Filmworks we believe great work is what will help African-Americans broaden their image in cinema and in the world.  As primarily a Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois theoretically based African-American based film production company, we realize and accept that African-Americans are a multi-faceted people who are made up of all the varied complexities that make one a part of the human race.  Keeping these complexities in mind we believe that cinema about the daily lives of African-Americans should reflect those same complexities.  Whether it is a story about the socially great, socially understood, socially mis-educated, or the socially downtrodden they all have some form of intense complexity that should make others acknowledge there existence.  It is our mission to make sure this goal is accomplished by doing the following:

  • Re-focusing African-American cinema on storytelling and performance.
  • Presenting cinema that are both artistically gratifying as well as commercially successful.
  • To highlight stories that are important, but not necessarily mainstream in topic or importance.
  • To use visual media (film and television) as a means to connect with and stretch the minds of the disinherited, but not to exclude the inherited.
